Facing Uncertainty
When I first arrived at DP, the broad, open-ended meaning of “Systems Thinking X Marketing” confused me. It was a new and foreign concept that I had not encountered before. However, our mentor Marc’s enthusiasm and the safe space that DP provided for learning encouraged us to dive into this unexplored, “#Ungoogleable” challenge.
Trial and Error
We met with our mentor Marc for daily check-ins on the progress of our research. These check-ins were extremely useful for us to understand and synthesize the information each of us had gathered. It also gave us clarity about the direction our project was heading and allowed us to set priorities.
Skills We Learnt
Through compiling research and working on our original Systems Thinking X Marketing model to present to our mentor daily, we honed our research and presentation skills, while also learning more about marketing and systems thinking.
We learned how to sieve through the overwhelming amount of information on the internet and glean key insights. By applying systems thinking tools to the information we gathered, we were able to identify the relationships between various pieces of information and analyze them as a whole.
In Conclusion
Overall, my internship experience has been extremely rewarding. It made me realize that learning is a never-ending process: the model that my team created would continue to be built on and expanded by other interns. It also challenged me to view the world from a broader, systems thinking perspective.
Even though my internship has come to an end, my experience remains in my memory as an unforgettable milestone in my journey to grow, learn and improve myself. For that, I am extremely grateful to everyone at DP for providing me with this rare opportunity.
To any students considering an internship, DP is definitely a great place for your first working experience! A place that challenges you to question everything and find your own answers.
